The Regular Program of Portuguese as a Foreign Language offers a monthly based course on the linguistic and cultural aspects of the Portuguese Language through the development of both written (reading and writing) and oral communicative abilities in diverse situational contexts of day-to-day life, through experimentations with cultural life.

The program will focus on Brazilian culture, promoting the development of oral communication in conversation classes including face-to-face interaction and discussion of practical topics through the usage of different resources (photos, pictures, audio and video materials, newspapers, magazines among others) , as well as multimedia support (language and info labs, television, videos and DVD’s, and the internet.)

The course is offered throughout the year building up linguistic confidence as the student is gradually exposed to meaningful and practical chunks of language leading to fluency.

The length of the course varies according to the students’ needs: 1 month based on a 4-hour-day course program, scheduled from 8 to 12 am Monday through Friday.

Target Public:

• Students who are studying or have already finished High School or university;
• Undergraduate or graduate Students;
• Students who intend to acquire better knowledge regarding Brazililian culture.

Objectives:

• Enable students to acquire Portuguese, promoting their contact with cultural values and presenting cultural situations from which the student can learn the Portuguese language;
• Promote the development of linguistic and communicative competences;
• Prepare students for the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language – Celpe-Bras / MEC – METODISTA every April or October.

Morning and afternoon Classes: Mondays to Fridays / 4 hours a day, from 9 to 12 am

Total Schedule: 60 hours

Groups: 04 – 15 students

The course is offerred every May and November

Certificates:

• Attendance Certificate – will be provided by the Centro de Línguas Metodista, which is part of Faculdade de Humanidades e Direito when the student concludes a term;
• Celpe-Bras – Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language – at the following levels: Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced and Upper Advanced will be issued by the Department of Education (MEC) after successful testing applied at Universidade Metodista de São Paulo twice a year and promoted by MEC every April or October.
