Spiriturality, media, science and technology were the subject of this Wednesday
The working groups continued their discussions this Wednesday (13th) in the 6th Conference of Media, Religion and Culture. Ms Elonda Clay, from the Lutheran School of Teology in Chicago, USA, spoke about the Afro-American identity in the working group: “Cultural Studies in Media and Religion”. The theme proposed by the researcher is “Will the genome take you home? Mediatic peregrination and genetic Afro inheritance in the documentaries: ‘Motherland: the genetic journey’ and ‘Afro-American lives’”. The researcher talked about both genetic and social differences in dealing with people. She also mentioned that “purity” of families is of great importance for the Americans.
In the working group: “Gender, religion and media”, the researcher Carlos Garma from the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Iztapalapa, in Mexico, spoke about the power that men have in Mexican families. With his study “Masculinity in Mexican Evagelican Music”, the researcher dealt with the masculinity of Christian men and the predudice against homossexualism.
