Four work groups (WGs) that integrate the 6th Conference on Media, Religion and Culture (CMRC) gathered this morning (12) to discuss varied themes related to the event.

The professor and coordinator of the PhD programs in Social Communications of the Methodist University of Sao Paulo (Universidade Metodista de São Paulo) coordinated the WG “Cultural Studies of Media and Religion”. A lot of presentations were programmed for this group, like: “Preaching Popular Culture: An exploration of references to The Da Vinci Code, The Jesus Papers, The Gospel of Judas and other artefacts of popular media in Canadian Easter Sunday sermons” and “Turbo–Folk Serbia: Crime, Cross and Sex”.

In another WG, Communication and Religious Media, Bernardo Veiga de Oliveira presented the paper “From Saint Thome to Saint Agustin: change of the Roman Catholic Church’s communication in Bento XVI episcopate”

The other WGs debated religion in great media corporations and also the new technologies of information and communication.
